Recently I’ve been feeling diminishing returns to just reading about crypto in order to better think about crypto. A lot of what’s out there feels like it’s describing the ground in front of our feet while what we really need as builders is to see what’s on the other side of the horizon. Especially as I get ready for this next season of our podcast, I’m looking for powerful “far analogies” to other innovations/mental models/systems.

What’s something that really shaped your thinking about crypto, but isn’t about crypto directly? 

 — a better understanding of open source communities profoundly shaped how I think about governance of public goods, specifically software. But lately I haven’t found anything like that which just rearchitects my brain entirely. 

P.S. depending on the answers here, perhaps we can coordinate a few people to read/listen to the same thing and jam a bit on it.

One example for me is “Working in Public” by Nadia Eghbal — a better understanding of open source communities profoundly shaped how I think about governance of public goods, specifically software. But lately I haven’t found anything like that which just rearchitects my brain entirely.
